Volunteer With Us
Join us!
Horizons at CDS is a year round enrichment program with a focus on making summer fun and productive. The mission of Horizons at CDS is to help improve the life trajectory of students from under-served communities by creating opportunities for them to expand their joy of learning, skills for success, and inspiration to realize their dreams. Horizons students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and they reflect the diversity of the Asheville community. When they first come to Horizons, most students are performing below grade level. Our six week summer program includes project-based learning in reading, math & science, as well as dance, art, music, swimming, and field trips. Volunteers and interns will have a chance to interact with students and support the program in a variety of meaningful ways. All who join the Horizons family can expect an enriching, hands on, joyful, and potentially life-changing experience.
Summer Volunteer Opportunities
The 2023 Horizons at CDS Program runs from June 20th-July 28th (off July 4th). Volunteer hours are 8 AM-3:45 PM. Interns and volunteers may participate in 3 weeks or the full 6 weeks of the program. For special time arrangements, contact bbryan@cdshorizons.org. This will be our sixth summer, so you will have the opportunity to work with students grades K-5! Students return each summer as we add a new class of younger students. Volunteers who stick with the program will have the opportunity to build deep, lasting relationships and have a significant impact on the lives of these children.
Horizons Volunteers must be:
1. At least 13 years old, from any school. Adults are also encouraged to volunteer!
2. Available to attend a mandatory orientation for Horizons program (Coming Soon!).

Working at Horizons and the Carolina Day School means being part of a strong community steeped in a passion for learning. We are committed to our students and families, and to each other. We recruit only the best and brightest for our team of professional educators, administrative and support staff.
We are committed to building a faculty, team, staff, student body, and culture which reflect the diversity of the greater world around us. Diversity adds quality to our community by cultivating a richness of ideas, a broadening of perspectives and a respect for others.

Family Events
Family events brings our families together for fantastic fun. Volunteers for our family events help make sure everything runs smoothly. Tasks include setting up, leading craft activities, serving snacks, taking photos, and breaking down the event. These opportunities are fun, uplifting, low-commitment, and happen every other month.
