Bridging the Digital Divide

Posted on

A study done by the Pew Research Center shows that the digital divide (e.g., a lack of access to reliable internet and essential technology), especially during the COVID-19 crisis, can lead to an astounding increase in the achievement gap, further widening the gap between low-income and high-income students. Just as Asheville City and Buncombe County schools worked hard to provide technology for their students during remote learning, Horizons at CDS has done the same.

We are grateful to the Dogwood Foundation, which provided a grant to purchase tablets for children for the duration of our summer program. We also hired a tech support staff member, who is available at a moment's notice to help families with any issues in accessing their online classes. We are committed to ensuring that all Horizons children can participate fully in online learning, and we are happy to say attendance and participation are strong!
